So things are going well. I’ve had a couple painful mornings but I’m already going at it in rehab. Being on crutches is really a tricky thing. I know they say you aren’t supposed to have much pressure on your underarms so you don’t need those towels that you always see people who have crutches with, but I guess I’m doing it all wrong, because my crutches are all wrapped up with towels…oops

So I went out and got the paperwork for handicapped parking so I am an official handicapped holder. It really has saved my life because I really am struggling to walk everywhere. As much as I said it will be a test to see how well I can be on depending on others…I’m really not.

I guess those who know me know I go to my own beat. I am patient but it’s easy to get frustrated when you’re in pain and I’d rather not have everyone witness KK in a bad mood. I think that’s when I switch from KK to Karina but hopefully only a few people will ever know about that…ha ha… Read the rest of this entry »

Well, only 2 days post surgery and I already want to throw my crutches out the window….I only have to walk with them for 5 more FULL weeks…The surgery went well and I am feeling very optimistic about it.

I had the choice if I wanted to stay awake during the surgery or not. I chose to be awake, with a regional anesthesia making my entire right leg numb. I have to say I made it a positive experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it being able to see and ask questions about what was going on, as well as make jokes which I at the time thought was funny, but for poor Dr. Hosea, I’m sure wasn’t….

I was released a couple hours after, and my mom managed to get us home safe and sound (thanks to the navigation system or I think we’d still be driving around…she was quite jetlagged to say the least). Read the rest of this entry »

I am writing this to you the morning of my surgery, which is today, October 12th, 2006. It has been a long wait but I am happy that the day is finally here.

It has been since mid August when I found out from some severe swelling and an MRI which showed that I had a chrondyle defect in my knee (basically a little hole in my knee) located right in the middle of my knee where one kneecaps meets the other…there is cartilage/meniscus there to protect the bone on bone stuff, but at the point of weight baring, there was a little chip which is where the defect is…well since that point it has been an interesting road.

As always, when it comes to traveling there always seems to be some sort of delay, but this time is was with my MRI. I went out to Newfoundland with the team for the series against China. As soon as I arrived, it was confirmed by Dave (our therapist) and doctors that I would not be able to play so I came home to get some answers here as the doctors in Newfy, checked out my MRI’s.

Well, within a day, I had a result and the plan was to have my MRI’s send overnight to me so that I can use them for the visits I’d scheduled back here in New Jersey. Well…as I said, with travel comes delay. For some reason, the package did not get to me until almost 2 weeks later meaning I could not really see many doctors until I had them.

It was a long long 2 weeks which was a great test for my patience because as any athlete would know, when you are injured, you want ANSWERS and a TIME FRAME…I could get neither without those silly MRI’s. Read the rest of this entry »

Entry from Kristie Lang.

Heyyy!

So, this past week has been awesome. We had three days of tough practices full of lifting, fitness, walk throughs, set pieces, etc. (The list goes on!!). But, our team knew that doing these things thoroughly would make us that much better, and that much more prepared for the weekend. We had two huge games this weekend. We played Marquette on Friday night. It was a serious battle in first half with dangerous opportunities for both teams. However, in the second half, we put them on their heels and scored 3 great goals in about ten minutes. It was an awesome feeling.

We had a great crowd that night full of younger girls teams throughout New Jersey. It was an awesome feeling to hear them screaming every minute of the game, and after the game, they were lined up along the fence for autographs. I remember doing that when I was little, and to be on the other side of the fence this time was unbelievable. Later that night, a few of us went to grab something to eat and finished watching our football team defeat USF at Chili’s. As we were eating, even more little girls came up to us and asked us for our autographs. It was so cute! Read the rest of this entry »

Entry from Erin Guthrie.

My college experience has been unbelievable!!! I have had the time of my life. Just in the last month and a half I have made new best friends. We spend all hours together from double sessions and fitness to late night dinners at our dining hall. I could not have asked to be on a team with a better group of girls and coaches(especially my awesome goalkeeper coach).

This season we have done so well. At this point we are 7-1-1, our only loss against Stanford and our tie against Villanova. In the beginning, I definitely felt as though I needed to adjust to the players in front of me as well as the level of competition. Karina and the defenders made it even easier on me to make my adjustment happen as fast as possible. I still have stuff that I need to work out and work on, but I feel as though it gets better each game. Read the rest of this entry »
